Albany Park Middle School Students Acquire Fit Bodies, Fit Minds at Life Fitness

        SCHILLER PARK, Ill. (June 5 2008) – More than 40 seventh- and eighth-grade students from Albany Park Multicultural Academy (APMA) in Chicago, visited the international headquarters of Life Fitness to get an insider’s look at the fitness industry from a manufacturing perspective. The tour was an extension of a year-long relationship the company has with the school. In 2007, Life Fitness worked with educators at APMA to provide comprehensive fitness programming for the Chicago public school through its Circuit Series strength-training system.

        “This was an opportunity for us to personally thank the children for their dedication to providing Life Fitness with product feedback, while also giving the students visibility to the science and business behind the exercise equipment they see in their school,” said Life Fitness president John Stransky. “We not only hope to encourage them to keep up with their health and fitness goals, but open their eyes to the different types of career opportunities that exist within this industry.”

        Life Fitness orchestrated a three-hour tour of its Franklin Park facilities and hosted sessions for the students on engineering, marketing, biomechanics and training through Life Fitness Academy, the training and education arm of Life Fitness. The students also toured the factory floor, visited testing labs and experienced a product test in the company’s state-of-the-art biomechanics lab.

         “We are so thankful that Life Fitness was generous enough to provide us with a comprehensive overview of how they run such a successful business,” said Eileen O’Toole, principal of APMA. “The experience was extremely valuable for the students in bringing both fitness and career opportunities to life.”
