Life Fitness Partners With Chicago Bears and United Way to Give At-Risk Students A Chance To Get Fit |
SCHILLER PARK, Ill. (Oct. 7, 2008) - Life Fitness has partnered with the Chicago Bears and United Way to provide at-risk high school students with the opportunity to get fit and ultimately live healthier lives as part of the 2008 NFL Hometown Huddle. Working together with the United Way Latino Initiative, the Chicago Bears and Life Fitness presented a Bears Fitness Zone, along with a ten week fitness and nutrition program, to the students of Morton East High School, located in Cicero Ill., today at a ceremony held at the high school.
A western suburb of Chicago, Cicero has a high rate of crime and violence, limiting neighborhood children from participating in outdoor exercise activities. To get students involved in aerobic activity, Life Fitness, the Chicago Bears and United Way have completely redesigned and updated the Morton East High School fitness area, providing Cicero’s youth an opportunity to work out in a safe environment.
“Increasing the public’s awareness about the importance of health and fitness is a priority for us,” said John Stransky, president of Life Fitness. “We’re honored to work with the Chicago Bears and United Way not only to help us communicate this message, but also to give back to the community.”
Bears rookies Earl Bennett, Kellen Davis, Matt Forte, Caleb Hanie, Craig Steltz, Chris Williams, Ervin Baldwin, Cody Balogh, Zackary Bowman and Joey LaRocque presented the Bears Fitness Zone to the students of Morton East by signing a large banner that will reside over the new fitness space, as well as leading a mini-training camp for the students. The Chicago Bears rookie lineup acted as health and fitness mentors for the day, leading exercise drills for more than 100 students and advocating for maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle.
The new Fitness Zone features the Life Fitness Circuit Series, easy-to-use strength training equipment, as well as treadmills and exercise bikes. Life Fitness Academy, the education arm of Life Fitness, kicked off the event by helping students develop workout plans through a ten-week program known as “Take the Pledge.” The program encourages students to participate in, and commit to, aerobic activity. “Take the Pledge” clearly outlines daily recommended exercises and nutrition tips promoting progression and success.
As part of the partnership, Life Fitness is providing programming support and ongoing education through the Life Fitness Academy. The staff of Life Fitness Academy will continue to visit the school throughout the ten-week course to encourage the students to stick with their “Take the Pledge” programs, promote progression and answer any questions the students may have about the equipment or fitness.
